We just bought an 11 year old custom built home in South – Central Ontario. The wood flooring looks to be in pretty good shape — it’s the 1 1/2 to 2 inch wide – 6 to 8 foot lengths (like most flooring) in newer homes. It covers the floor in the great room and most of the dining room.

What I would like to know is:

      1. It is dark in colour (almost dark brown) and needs some sprucing up for the Holidays. Any suggestions for a temporary measure. We will probably re-do them in the New Year.
An apartment we had also had a similar flooring and all I did was wash and coat with a water based varnish. It looked nice but did not last long — especially in heavy traffic areas.

      2. How can you tell the difference in paint that is already on the walls. Our great room is neutral but I do not know if it is oil based or water based. As well — what are the pros and cons of either type.

      Thanks for all your help

      Greg
