Does anyone know what causes a gushing wind sound in a bathroom sink drain? When open it sounds like wind is blowing. Thanks in advance.

It is probably from the vent pipe. Drains should be vented so gasses can escape rather than backing up into the house. These are typically vented through a roof in PVC pipe and a house could have several vents through the roof.

Other poster is correct in that the vent will be the cause of the sound, but if the sink drain is properly trapped there should be no sound at all.

Appears as if there is either no trap or a dry trap, or the vent is installed improperly.

Since a dry trap can lead to serious problems with sewer gas, you should have this checked by a plumber.
