wallpapering textured ceilings

We are wanting to wallpaper a ceiling, but the ceiling has been partially textured by the previous owner of the home. Can we wallpaper over the texture or do we have to have an even surface to wallpaper it?

Sandy, any texturing will telegraph through the
wall paper, so it should be removed.

Does anyone know where we can get a textured paper that can goe on a ceiling that looks like

small geometric square design resembling the old tin ceilings? We did the armstrong tiles on the really bad ceilings but saw this texture stuff in a house in Reading, Ma. It looked great and easy to put up. please email if anyone knows what I’m looking for. thanks!!! Susan
