You can use a coil nailer or stapler for composite roofing. This is not the same as a finish or framing nailer. I bought a Porter Cable coil roofing nailer five years ago and used it ONCE! I now live in a house with a cement tile roof. Need one?

Anyway, it was well worth it, and I probably could not have rented for less considering I took about 3-weeks to complete the roofing, about 33 squares of 30 year architectural shingles. The best part is I did not smash my thumb once, and the job went quickly.

If you are under and International Residential Code jurisdiction be careful not to use staples.

They are not permitted for asphalt shingles anymore.
