I have an old fridge that I keep in the garage (Coronado) – it is one of those with one big door and the freezer inside of it accessed by a smaller pull-down door.

What I am wondering is, can I disconnect the freezer only? It just builds up with ice all the time and I don’t keep anything in it.

      Thanks

Nope, that freezing compartment is what cools the rest of the refrigerator.

** can I disconnect the freezer only? **

      As thiggy said, no.

** It just builds up with ice all the time **

It should accumulate white, snow-like “frost” (not clear “ice”) and periodically need to be defrosted. DON’T use a sharp object!!!!

If it is “frosting” up too often, the door seals may be leaking and need to be replaced. If it is “icing” up, you may have some other sort of problem.

BTW. The frosting should be uniform across the evaporator’s (freezer box’s) whole surface. If it is just building up in spots, that is something else again.

      JFYI
