We have been having leaks appear on our ceiling in the
kitchen and guest bathroom. We figured out the problem
in the guest bath is coming from the toilet upstairs.
Is it possible that the toilet is also causing the
problem in the kitchen. We checked our tub/shower and
everything appears dry we even let the water run for
awhile, any suggestions? -

Sandy, You are probably guessing correctly, sad to say. It is not uncommon for the wax ring that forms the seal between the toilet bowl and the flange on the floor to spring a leak. One way that this can be caused ( I learned myself the hard way ) is thorough overly zealous plunging. If you have some floor covering, say sheet vinyl, the water could flow between that and the subfloor and leak through in a nearby room. The good news is that wax rings are inexpensive. Its a messy job, but not a costly one. Oh well, it will give you something to do in your spare time this weekend.

I wrote the other day regarding a leaking toilet.
We replace that toilet but have a slight problem.
We connected the tank to the bowl but are leaking
between the tank and the bowl. We tried
loosening and tightening but can’t seem to stop
the leak any ideas would be appreciated. -

Hi: I tried to turn the plactic nut close to the tank where the waterline is, but it keeps turning the floater piece inside the tank. I am afraid to turn it to much more for fear it will snap it off.
What am I doing wrong or is this a two person operartion. Also, had to replace the bolts that hold the tank to the bowl. The kit I got came with four rubber washer rings, two screw bolts and lock washers and nuts, and ruber ring for between tank and bowl. Dose one ring go inside the tank and the other go on the outside bottom to keep it from leaking, and the then the meatal washers go on next? Please help. Judy from PA
