rust forming around the drain of bath tub

I recently noticed that my 4 year old bath rub has rust forming around the drain. Last night someone filled the tub up and it is leaking from the rust (which I’m assuming means it’s also cracked). Is there a possible repair for this other than replacing the tub? WHat can I clean the rust off with that wont hurt the crack anymore?

I also have rust around the drain in my bath tub. This is an older tub…but I’ve not idea what it is made of. It is metal of some sort…it has a white enamel coating over it. I want to do something about it before I have to replace the rub.
