Roof on a Shed – Do I need a Truss?

I want to build a 12′ x 20′ shed (10′ high) with a gable roof. I want the interior to be open all the way to the roof, but someone told me I either have to build a ceiling or buy a ready made roof with Trusses. Is this true? If so, can I build the trusses myself? Thanks in advance for your help.

You don’t need trusses or a ceiling – but you need rafter ties spanning the width of the garage – basically, ceiling joists without the plywood… .. even that’s overkill…
