I need help replacing the hot water facet in the tub. I can’t turn off the hot water. It has turn from a drip to a steady stream. I am loseing alot of water. The problem seem to be that I can’t turn off the water, because it’s behind the tiled wall. What can I do to replace this facet? I did get a kit but it doesn’t explain how to do this repair. Do I shut off the main water value to the house? It’s very cold here now and I am afraid fo the pipes freezing. Thanks for any help.

If there is no shutoff to the house or to that branch in the plumbing…you’ll have to turn it off at the main…bleed the water out of the lines by turning on inside faucets…residual pressure in the lines should bleed of some water so if it did freeze it can expand anyway without busting the pipes (or as they say, thaws).

find your main shutoff for the home

usually on the front wall of house, in basement if you have one, near the water meter

shut off the water main, this is the way you service a tub faucet as there is no provision for just shutting the tub in most homes, like you would find under a sink or toilet. tubs are shut at the main

then go ahead asnd service you fauset washer

i would replace both hot and cold as long as your doing one do both

BTW, your probally going to need a tub wrench, is a deep socket set that are very inexopensive, this enables you to get the stem out

also, flowing water will not freeze, so dont worry about the dripping faucet freezing, its the other lines that will freex

let me know if you need anynmore help or let us know if you indeed fix it!
