Removing wooden plugs

I am trying to temporarily remove a wooden banister in order to fit large furniture downstairs. There are four points where it is screwed into the wall and wooden plugs are glued over the screw holes. Can anyone kindly recommend a method to safely remove these plugs? Thanks!

Using a wood screw or a drywall screw and screw it in the center of the wood plug and when it hits the metal bolt it will force most of, maybe all of the plug.
