Removing wood paneling

How do you remove wood paneling that has been glued and nailed to plastic coated wallpaper. Unfortunately, my attempt at prying it loose is also removing the first layer of drywall where the paneling was glued. HELPPPPPPPP

You’re unfortunately either going to tear the drywall apart and patch it or just tear it all down and re-drywall.

I have a living room wall that has dark wood paneling. Underneath is drywall. Should I remove this to paint or cover it over with drywall or other material?

I am doing this myself and would like to do this the easiest way possible.
