GuestHello Urena,
Your question regarding remodeling a mobile home is a very broad subject, covering all parameters of carpentry, plumbing, electrical…well, you get the picture.
If your mobile home is pre 1980’s, the storage drawers are probably made of 1/4″ plywood paneling, as are the walls. If you have minimal tools, it is not difficult to rebuild the drawers using yellow woodworkers glue and brads. If your skill levels (and your tools) permit then proceed with replacing the drawers with stro
nger units. Brace the existing cabinet carcass with 1×2 strips and install metal drawer slides. NEVER cut any wall brace during your remodeling as virtually every wall in a aluminum shell coach is a bearing wall; that is a wall which supports the struc
ture or frame. At any rate, some simple repairs, followed by primer and finish coats should made your mobile home look great! If you have any questions, just drop me a line. Good Luck!

GuestI just purchased a mobile home that needs a lot of work. It was built in 1972. I see a lot of potential in this place. I am looking for some ideas with how to cover the dark panel walls. What types of paint would cover them best? I also want them to not have the panel look I want them to look like normal drywall walls. I would greatly appreciate any ideas you may have.
Thank you

GuestWe have a mobile home on the Tennessee River as a second home. It was recently flooded by heavy amounts of rain. The mobile home is an 85 model and we were trying to decide if it would be too costly to put new insulation, walls, and plywood on the floor. And also, after replacing this stuff would the smell of murky mud fade? Has anyone ever been through this?

ParticipantWe have offered to help an elderly woman who has COPD and lives in a very old mobile home, replace her carpet with vinyl or linoleum. My question is she has any where from 7-12 dogs and almost as many cats. She claims the subflooring under the carpet is fine (no sags – no soft spots), however, I’m worried between the urine and the daily shampooing (of the carpet) what damage could have been done to the subflooring? If there is damage from the urine and shampoos how difficult and expensive is it to repair what lays underneath the carpet (I know nothing about mobile homes)…And last, if there by chance is very little damage and we can lay flooring over top of the subflooring, do we lay the vinyl like we would in a regular home?
