Hi folks! Maybe someone can help me figure out how to diagnose the flickering I am getting with my recessed lights.

The 2 causes I’ve heard of are:

      — insulation too close to fixture (less than 3 inches); and

      — bulb exceeding what fixture is rated for.

But I don’t think either of these are my problem. Is there another explanation I should look for?

      Thanks for any suggestions!

      John

You need to be more specific about what kind of light it is. If it is any type of flourescent light, replace the starter or ballist. If it is an incandescent bulb, try changing the bulb to a smaller wattage. Using a bulb that exceeds the fixture rating can cause these problems. If these don’t fix the problem, you should call an electrician because you may have a short and that could be a fire hazard.

You don’t think its related to the fixture getting too hot – why not?

If you have additional info, please share it with us. You’ll get a better response.
