I am trying to mount a decrative corner shelf in one of my bathrooms, but have a minor problem. The shelves are wood and have decrative metal supports with mounting holes that cannot be changed. When I drilled the hole in the 1/2″ drywall I hit the metal ductwork. I didn’t go through it, but I’m wondering what kind of anchor or molly I can use without going into the duct yet still provide a reasonable amount of support for the shelf.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I ASSUME the metal duct is for heating hot air or cold air return.
IF this is the case, I would drill through the metal and use the correct size sheet metal screw to fasten it. The screw will seal the hole to prevent any significant air leak.
      Good Luck!
