I’m looking for a source of parts for old Craftsman power tools. In particular I need a “driven” sheave for an old bench drill press. This is probably a 1940’s or 1950’s vintage tool. The model numbers are no longer listed in the local parts store database. It has a “dunlap” motor – don’t know how long ago these motors were used….Also need a tailstock for an old craftsman lathe. I pick up old tools from time to time and would love to find a source for parts. Seems like I’d seen an ad for someone that sold “new-old-stock” parts….can;t recall where…..Help anyone? Thanks, Charlie

I am looking for the knob that fits on top of the housing directly over the rod that moves up and down to work the blade. The saw looks like it has a screw thread where the knob would fit on to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is an old saw but work well, this casting needs to be replaced as it split between the bolts and is hard to keep the table level to make a square cut. If we can’t find the part maybe I can try and machine one myself. Hope you can help me.

Just wondering if anyone knows where I could get a manual, and replacement gears for the saw. It’s still running on the original Sears Craftsman motor too! Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Recently aquired the above band saw, minus miter gauge and fence. This saw is new and never been used, however it’s (4 yr?) old. I would like to obtain the fence designed for this (swing-head) band saw w/large stationery work top. The manual did not speciify any addiitional accessory items and the personel at Sears did not seem interested in my request, only to suggest that I purchase a universal fence, that was not to my liking.

Can you please be of help.

I was given this tool to place in the old tool display in the shop. Can some one tell me when it was made and anyother information you might have about this tool.

Can you also share with me other web sites for search of other power tools? I also have a Gustafson and Scott 10″ Table saw #2374 I would like information on.

I have obtained a very old cast iron Craftsman Pipe Cutting equipment P/N 108 1502. It could be a table top unit mounted to an stand someone built for it.

It is an electric unit with a fly wheel type action where the hack saw blade runs back and forth and the weight of the head keeps pressure on the saw movement.

There is a cast iron bar or bracket with a thumb screw that attaches to the end of the weighted head with a single screw that is used hold and tighten the saw blade by turning the thumb screw.

The cast iron bar has broken and I’m looking for a replacement part and/or an owners manual for this equipment.

I have this old table saw which I inherited from my grandfather. It is a tilting arbor saw, with a heavy cast iron base and top. it has a rack and pinion gear for the blade elevator however the rack and pinion are made from pig iron and the teeth are stripped. The rack has a slight curve in it so my local machine shop say’s he cant replicate it. So no I am in the process of building my own propane fired foundry so that I can hopfully cast the part in brass myself. So far the foundry is going thogether great. should be done with it in a few weeks.

I am trying to change my saw from 220v to 110v and the diagram on the motor does not make sense with the wires inside… Does anybody have a manual for this saw (113.29510) or have one that is wired now to 110?? I would pay for advice or a manual that has better notes on the wiring hookups.

I have a crafstman jointer planer model# 10321880 and dont understand how to adjust it. The only adjustment I see is on one side of the table to leval the two halves. There seems no way to make the blades go up and down, once I have the two table halves leval. I tried to use it with the table at different levals but its hard to work with that way and seems improper, thank you, Gary.

in the late ’40s and early ’50s sears sold about 10 different versions of essentially the same type of machine lathe, most, if not all were made by Atlas (tool works?) Mich. as I understand it the original mfg. has long since gone out of business, however, parts are still available from various sources. there are at least 3-4 that I’m aware of. identifying features include bed length, bearing type (babbit v. roller), swing, main lead screw (5/8″ or 3/4″), and type of feed gear change device (simple on/off lever or quick change).

Before going any further, find the Model # on your machine or tool.
Then start is the Sears Parts Website:
      http://www.partsdirect.com
If that did not work, try calling their parts line.
      (800) 469-4663

      Still no luck?
      Go to:
      http://www.owwm.com/Craftsman/Manufacturers-Prefix.asp

Find the manufacturer of your tool. Google the maker to see if they are still in business http://www.google.com and contact them directly.

      Still no luck?

      My next stop is eBay:
http://www.ebay.com They have a tool section and often you can find the same model of your tool for sale. It does not matter if it works. I have combined several of my old tools to make one working model. That is of course if you are trying to use the tool and not just collect antiques.

      Still no luck?

Try local flea markets and garage sales, many will state, “tools” in their ads. This is a last resort and if you have made it this far you may want to look into having your tool serviced by a professional. They may have access to parts that are replacements for your original or they can replace a couple parts down the line and make your tool like new.

      Good luck.

Often people ask if Sears or Craftsman manufactures the tools they sell. The answer is simply, no. Sears owns the brand name Craftsman and contracts out the manufacture to tool producers. Sears picks the features they want on their models and specifies the quality specifications. Then brands these tools. Sears may also own some of the patents to produce exclusive tools.

      Why should you buy Craftsman?
They are decent tools at a decent price. And they go on sale.
The hand tools also have a great guarantee.
On a side note: I could not figure out why the tool department wanted to fix my ratchet instead of replace it until I got home and the new one did not fit in my plastic case. I should have listened more closely to the teenager behind the counter.

Where did the name Craftsman come from?
This is from the Sears website:
“Historians do know the origin of the Craftsman brand name. In 1927, Sears hired Arthur Barrows to head the company’s Hardware Department. Barrows knew hardware and wanted to create a brand name for Sears hardware that distinguished it from other manufacturers. Barrows liked the name Craftsman used by the Marion-Craftsman Tool Company and offered Marion-Craftsman a reported $500.00 for the rights to use the Craftsman name on Sears products.
“When Sears promoted Barrows to West Coast Manager, he hired Tom Dunlap to take over the hardware department. Dunlap immediately upgraded the quality of the tools. He threw out all the big, clumsy, cheap, cast-iron hammers and wrenches, and the soft screwdrivers that were hangovers from the days when farmers were the company’s biggest customers. Dunlap recognized that America had moved into the automobile age and that Sears needed a line of high quality tools to meet this new demand.
“Tom Dunlap understood the pride a good mechanic had in their tools and how most mechanics meticulously cleaned their tools at the end of each day. He decided to improve the look of Craftsman tools by adding chrome plate to improve the finish, color, and trim on wrenches and sockets, and high impact plastic handles on screwdrivers. Dunlap’s old boss, Arthur Barrows did not think it made sense to chrome plate a tool that someone would “slug the hell out of” when using, but Dunlap’s persistence paid off and sales of chrome plated tools increased six times the next year. Craftsman full polish wrenches quickly became popular with mechanics because they were reliable, looked good, and were easy to clean.”

      AMT 5300

AMT 5300 lathe. The only info given was that AMT was not making wood working equipment any longer. That is true but AMT did not make that lathe, it came from China and AMT put their name on it. Les Stewart of Rock Hill, SC found a source for parts for this lathe and “This lathe is an older version of a Harbor Freight model 34706 lathe. The biggest difference is that the HF lathe has the spindles bored for #2 Morse tapers. Other than that it is the same.”
