Hi, my daughter is painting a room at her place of employment of which one wall has hideous outdated paneling. I told her she should remove the paneling and do any patching, etc on it and then paint it. Her question is can she paint over the paneling (fake wood) and will it look ok?

How much effort would one be willing to put into painting the walls of their place of employment? If the employer won’t have it painted and your daughter has her heart set on painting, I would just prime then paint over the paneling with a high-end wall paint. That is a whole lot less labor than removing the paneling and repair whatever may be found beneath it, and it won’t look too shabby either.
