I need to run some white sheathed electrical cable cable along an open beam ceiling from a new ceiling fan to the wall eight feet away. (There is no attic above.) How can I paint/stain/coat/cover the cable sheathing to conceal it? How many years can I reasonable expect paint to adhere? Do I need to prime? And what kind of paint?

run exposed sheathed electrical cable for this. Go over to Lowes or Home Depot and look at the Wiremold products for surface wiring. Small profile and relatively attractive and paintable fittings and conduits are available for what you are trying to do. Luck, Kizmet

You may not run white cable in a living space. If you need to run it along the beam then carefully chisel out the edge of the drywall and insert the wire under the drywall and beam. Then cover it with a molding or drywall to hid the wire. Be careful not to nail the wire if you use molding. Where the wire comes out to the fan put a box to hold the fan and the wiring properly.
