I recently bought my first house and am very excited about it. The bottom half of the walls in the kitchen are tongue in groove, but they’re PAINTED!!! The wood underneath is beautiful. I know stripping it is going to take forever and a day. Is there an easier way to make this look like wood again by painting or distressing it somehow? HELP!!! 🙂

      Thanks in advance!

This is a simple answer. The end result will be in direct relation to the amount of care and work you put into the task. If you really like the original wood, then you need to spend the time and strip it and refinish it.

If you just want a cheezy looking wood grain finish, then go to walmart, buy some adhesive contact paper go go to it.

I have to agree with “Fred”!
You do have to strip off the finish (I like the Back-to-Nature stripper), sand to perfection, probably re-stain the panels, then put on a few coats (3 preferably) of polyurethane.
You’ll be out of the kitchen for a week!!!
      Thanks!
