motion lights

in a garage, wanting to light outside, wall board and siding how would you hang and wire the lights attrractively

I have an outside motion light under my carport. when it comes on, it never goes off. What could be the problem? (I have one on a back door that’s been there longer and works great.) Is it because it’s under a car port, needs the timer readjusted, or what? Will appreciate any help.
