      Eve Hi”,
Normaly I would lay the floor at 90 degree to the
joists, and you are laying a new floor over the
old floor, then I would lay the floor same as
      the sub floor.
This way the new floor is always 90 dregee’s to
      the joists.

      Hi Eve,

Normally your hardwood should run at 90 degrees to your joists. Depanding on your subfloor, is it tounge and groove or plywood. If it is tounge and groove you should run the hardwood 90 degrees to the grooves. In either case you can lay down another subfloor and run any way you like.

For a someone who is a first time floor installer, would suggest I try installing tile squares or wood slaps on replacing carpet in a bedroom.
