I have recently purchased a house that has Bruce hardwood oak floofing that has walnut pegs on each end of the boards the widths of the boards are three inches and two inches, the problem is that some of the fuinish is worn off and was wandering what the best way to restore it is?just guessing he flooring is atleast 30 years old and is in great shape except the finish is gone in some places.

first identify existing finish, varnish? poly? laquer? wax?

then touch up with same, or screen and one coat the entire floor

no need to sand if you can identify old finish and floor is in basically good shape

I have totally sanded and refinished Bruce flooring 2’s & 3’s with walnut pegs before. While this is a last resort it may be the best solution. The question is how much of the floor does “some places” involve.

If you lightly sand and refinish individual boards and recoat them the problem is matching the coloring the aging process has created in the surrounding boards. You can use blue masking tape to isolate the finish to individual boards when recoating. If I were choosing this option I would use an oil modified urethane with a semi-gloss sheen.
