I am building my home in a coastal area. I have a new metal galvalum roof (mill finish, which I subed-out. Metal “shavings” were not removed from the roof after the trim was screwed on. The shavings rusted in about 2 days and have been on the roof now for about 8 weeks. The contrator tried to remove the shavings with soft scrub cleanser, but all will not come off. I’ve heard this may damage the roofing material, particularly in the salt-air environment that I am in.

I would appreciate any information on this problem.

      Thanks,

      Bruce

what did not come off the shaveings or just rust stains?

if your in salt air envermonent like you says, why did you put a metal roof on in the first place??

and if metal was your choice way not copper, why did you go with coated steel?

seems like a big mistake in material choice right off the bat
