i built a window well that steps out to a two tiered flower bed. my problem is that when there is a heavy downpour, the gutters on the eaves dump into the tiered flower bed and flow down and fill up the window well with water that we need to bail out. i think i could solve my window well problem if i extended the eaves…but i don’t know if this is possible. any answers or ideas?

Sounds like the gutters are overflowing due to either clogged downspouts, or lack of capacity to carry water to the ground. I would look into either adding a downspout or cleaning the ones you have to prevent this problem.

      Greetings Roxanne,

Extending the eaves sounds like over kill to me.

Why don’t you just cover the window well with a clear plastic or glass?

You might try diverting the downspouts to a dry well.

Without seeing your problem it’s hard to tell if extending the eaves will solve the problem but, there is no reason that I know of why you couldn’t extend them.

But, I would stick with covering the well. What happens when the rain water hits the side of the house?

      Good luck,

      Jason
