downstairs toilet gurgles when upstairs toilet flushed

I know that in the grand scheme of home repair, this may seem trivial, but it is embarrassing when we have guests over and the downstairs toilet starts gurgling and bubbling violently whenever the upstairs toilet is flushed! What causes this and how can we remedy situation? Any info appreciated.

Your vent is too small or blocked causing air to be pulled by the trap in the downstairs bathroom. If none of the above are suspect the guy who installed it screwed up.

Sounds like a vent pipe problem to me….you may need to talk to your plumber
