      Hello,

My old Craftsman door opener was having problems closing, it was here
six years ago when I moved into the house so I have no idea how old
it was. It would open just fine, but after the weather turned cold
it did not want to close. I had the same problem last year so I decided
      to just replace it.

      On to the real problem:

I purchased a Craftsman door opener (model #53975) and tried to simply
replace the old unit with the new one. Things seemed to go well, it only
took a few hours to swap in the new opener for the old one and install
Sensor Beams. I expected to have problems with the beams but both lights
glow steadily with no flickering that I or my wife can see.

However the new unit will not close or open with or without the door. The
Inner Trolley (which is near opener) will move maybe 4″-6″. Most of the
time it will than reversal itself and return to the starts point. A few
times it will stop and I have to hit the door control button to get it to return to it’s starting point.

I used almost nothing from the new door kit, a few nuts & bolts along the
the Safety Sensors. I also used the new Control Console and new wires. I
had hoped no to have to use anything else but that may be what my problem
      is.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks,

      Ken Henderson

I just replaced a craftsman and it did the same thing when the eye beams were not lined up right.

Check and make sure you have the wires hooked up correctly on the back of the unit,

If it closes a little and then reverses and clickes or flashes the big bulb or the little LED light on the back of the motor then its the eye beam circuit.

Also check the sensitivity settings on the opener for closing.

I have a linear garage door opener.

for some reason the opener will only open if the sun is not hitting the slab, i guess this is a reflection on the beams, perhaps I can move the beams and take care of this.

but now the operator will only open to mid point, it will close all the way down, but open to mid open.

I did tinker with the screws a little but not sure what to do.

once when I tried it, the remote would not open the operator, after a few minutes, it would again. Then the wall swithc will not open it, but after I wait a while, It will.

      what the hell??????????

about ready to throw this damn thing away and go get a genie,
      any suggestions????

I have a Craftsman opener. I close the door and leave the house. Sometimes when I come home, the door has opened on its own.
What could be causing the door to open by itself?
