My mother-in- law had a white Corning cooktop installed in her kitchen around 1970. She passed away, and we are getting ready to sell the house. It still works, but most of the burner areas are past cleaning, despite many years of cleaning. Is there a glass replacement for the old Corning cooktop available, and where can we buy it? Approximately how much would it and the installation cost?

She also has a white glass Corning cutting surface next to the sink. It has split. Is there an exact replacement available for that?

Looking forward to your earliest reply, as we need to address this quickly.

      Thank you very much. Mary

Mary, if I were you I would replace the cooktop with a new one. It isn’t much worth replacing the glass on a 32 year old cooktop, even if it still works. I don’t think you can still buy glass for that old of a cooktop and even if you could it would be too hard to remove and replace the glass, not to mention expensive. The cooktops run about $300, not cheap but less than a replacement glass. As for the corning glass next to the sink I am not sure if it is still available, but you will have a better chance of finding corning glass to fit there than the stove. Check the web and ask your home supply store such as Home Depot and see if they will help. I know Home Depot has glass ceran cooktops for less than $400.

      Good Luck.

** Is there a glass replacement for the old Corning cooktop available, and where can we buy it? **

That would depend on the brand of the cooktop appliance not just the glass used on it. You can read about what information you need to get replacement parts for your home appliances in the ‘Repair Parts’ section of by site linked below.

In most cases (being that Corning got out of the appliance accessories business 20+{?} yeas ago) the best you could hope for is that a replacement in the newer black glass which would fit is available.

** She also has a white glass Corning cutting surface next to the sink. **

For that you’d likely have to see if you can have something custom made. Check with a local glass supplier or kitchen cabinet place to see if they have or can get a suitable replacement.

I too have a Corning Cooktop and have been looking for either 2 replacement heater elements

or a new cooktop that will fit in the countertop hole. Since your tips recommend replacing the cooktop, tell me which brand and size will fit into my countertop cutout, which measures 20 5/8 x 31 3/8. I am trying to solve this problem without replacing the countertop.
