      Each spring for several years our landscape contractor has been spreading colored mulch in our garden beds and around our tree’s. In April of this year as always we contracted with him again to freshen the landscape. When he was finished it was beautiful and the Red Mulch really made our landscape stand out and was the best looking in our neighborhood. Within weeks we noticed that we had streaks of red stains all over our concrete sidewalks and driveways. The Red Mulch also was losing its color and fading quickly. In the past this has never happened. We also noticed our carpets in our home were getting stained, this was from the sprinkler system causing Red Water to pool on the sidewalk, and as we walked on the sidewalk it was tracked into our home, as well our car floor mats were ruined! As soon as we realized what was happening, we contacted the landscaper who informed us this was caused from the “new way” the facility where he was supplied from is coloring mulch. He went on to explain that they recently switched to a “Dry Pigment System” to color the mulch red. And they were having the same problem with all of the other landscapers they supplied, that their customers were having the same problems. This is a warning, make sure you ask you landscaper how the mulch was colored and that you will not allow him to install mulch that was made with “Dry Pigment,” otherwise you will have all of the same problems we had!

      for science fair we are melting crayons;

      crayons are made of colored pigment.

      does that make them dangerous?
