Trying to decide which way to go..I have a cedar vertical siding house near on the bay which is 18 yrs old.. there is some mold and lots of peeling of the stain. I have had it restained and powerwashed 3 times over the yrs. NOW.. Do I restain etc. or pull off the old cedar and start from new>>??
Also which cedar is the better to use on the salt water?? (New England States)
What is the best way to preserve the wood this time and keep it from peeling.??
any other ideas on what wood to use?

Painting or staining a house every 6 years falls with-in the normal range for re-coating.

Most re-staining and re-painting needs to occur every 3-7 years on any wood sided home.

No need to remove and replace the siding because you will still need to restain the house in about 6 years even with new cedar.

If you want to avoid restaining, you will have to install another exterior wall covering that wouldn’t need painting like vinyl, stucco, stone, etc…
