I am interested in the best method for installing
5/4 x 12″ rough sawn cypress siding. We’ve used double
hot dipped galvanized nails but with no finish on the wood
experienced some checking and warping after 8-10 years. I am
re-doing and adding on to the house and have used coated
(Prime-guard plus) deck screws. This seems to work well.
We installed screws every two feet or so along both sides
into studding, firebreaks and sheathing. Is this appropriate?
Can I use batten strips that are thinner and use one screw
in the center every two feet along the batten length? I plan
to use a semi-transparent stain this time. Any info to confirm
or correct this method would be appreciated. Any other ideas?
Thanks.
