I have a Snapper 6.5 HP self-propelled rear bagger/mulching lawnmower. It’s a lot heavier than the old Murray push mower I gave away last summer.

My question, what’s the best way to sharpen the blade on this monster? As I recall, I tipped the old Murray on it’s side to remove the blade and it seems oil leaked out. That can’t be right. Plus, the new mower is a lot heavier.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

unscrew the screw on the shaft. Take the blade off and grind it on a bench grinder at a 45 degree angle, to where you are comfortable with the sharpness. Turn it over and hit the bottom side one time.

Go drink a beer and enjoy the sharpness. Don’t worry about the oil spill. Just add more oil.

I speak from experiece,,, REMOVE THE SPARK PLUG!.. before removing the blade. I’ve had the blade snap around from a compression stroke..luckily I still have my fingers….just a thought….
