GuestI am installing a bathroom vanity and sinktop. The top is a one piece cultured marble top. The vanity doesn’y have any corner blocks to screw up into the top. I eas told to put a bead of silicone caulk on the top of the vanity and lay the top on it . Also I was told to use silicone caulk between the faucet base and the sink top and between the drain flange inside the sink, not plumbers putty. Does anyone know if this is correct and why? Thanks for any help.

Silicone is fine to use but can be messy and very difficult to remove excess. Plumbers putty is perfectly fine for the drain flange. Many faucets have a rubber gasket seal that goes under them and that eliminates the need for putty. If yours doesn’t have such a seal and you want some extra sealant protection, I recommend you use a bead of latex adhesive caulk like Phenoseal, or Polyseamseal. These products are water based and it’s easy to thoroughly clean up any squeeze out. Use the same latex caulk to bed the top. Not a lot– just a few dabs spaced around the cabinet top where it will contact the underside of the sink. Once it dries, it won’t go anywhere. There is no need for a mechanical fastener.
Good luck

GuestRecently, my teenage nut of a daughter, decided to kick the heck out of my bathroom vanity. Now being a single parent, i am thinking I can replace it myself. Is this something I could do? Is it hard? I hate the faucets on the sink, should I replace them at the same time? My sink is a one piece, one bowl sink. How do i measure to make sure I purchase the correct one? Please let me know, thanks for your help. Kia

GuestI already have a granite vanity top, and I wish to add side splashes. However, due to some odd size cabinetry, the perfect layout would be if I mounted the side splashes on the sides butted up next to the vanity top (instead of the usual mounting on top). Is this a bad idea? I realize the concern that water might drip down between the side splash and the vanity top. Any suggestions?
