We are in the process of “gutting” our bath.

Whirlpool tub is in position, now we are not sure of a way to inexpensively water-proof the surrounding walls. The ultimate ending will be slate surrounding walls. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I believe that for a slate substrate a cementous backerboard such as Durock or Hardiebacker would be more suitable than greenboard. Greenboard is only more water reisitant than standard drywall while the Durock.
