Would like to build a barbque pit out of concrete
blocks with metal hinged door on top and place to put the hot coals in the front. And a place to burn the wood to get the hot coals. -

I was incorrect in a post I made a short while ago.
Go to http://www.homedepot.com and order this book. It will give you all the information you need to build your own backyard barbeque/pit/smoker/chimney.
