Backyard has excess water in one spot all the time

I think we have a natural spring under our foundation or patio because we have water in one area that is there year round. We just planted landscaping thinking it would soak up some of the water but now our plants are dying from too much moisture and the mulch is getting moldy. Is there anything we can put on the soil to soak up some of it or to help keep it drier?

I had a similar situation and was only able to resolve it by moving the the water away via a french drain.
