I just installed mine on the flat, as close to the peak as the fan-mount would allow – after all, it was only a matter of about 2-3″.

Alternatively, you could mount a ceiling fan electrical box ON the peak, this would probably give you the clearance you need to mount the fan at the center – only downside, would be that you could probably see this box after the installation. This would require some careful placement, and some special bracing to get it secure.
