Well if what I am picturing all you need to do is install cement backer board, tape joints with fiberglass joint tape, float with mortar. Ensure that your wall is plumb. (shims behind backer board can accomplish this.) then apply your tile using mortar for your tub surround. Install tile, beat the tile with a 1 by board and rubber mallet, this will ensure all tiles are on the same plane, then run your wood over the surface making sure none of the tile came loose and are set. allow 24-48 to cure depending on manufacures suggestion. Then grout allowing a 1/32″ reveal. Allow the grout to set for 48hrs then seal. DO NOT allow these surfaces to get wet until you have completely sealed your tile surfaces. You know when to reseal your tile when put water on the surface of the mortar and it does not bead!
