Well one easy pro for me is if you are planning on doing anything in the basement the stud cavity is alredy there for inslating and wood strips are already applied for easily attaching drywall or any other wall material.
Althogh after re-reading your post I see you want to use it for a living area exsposed above ground. No offense but ewww.j.m.o.
