Jerm, I know your are disgruntle with the advice but patching a carpet is not easy, to do it properly, you need a carpet iron and fusible carpet tape. You cut out the piece to exactly match the opening, this is done by putting a larger piece over the damaged area and cutting both at the same time. Once that is done. Then you take the fusible carpet tape and lay it fusible side up and isert the iron on the tape and slowly move it along pressing the edges of the carpet together. Do this on all for sides. I have heard of people using duct tape stickly side up but don’t know much about it.

People on this forum gave excellent advice but only to the extent of their knowledge and experience and they give their time freely just to help their forum neighbor, save a few dollors and/or do a correct repair job, we can’t answer evey question but can only guide you.
