You need to purchase a homeowner’s electrical guide and brush up on theory before you start doing electrical work around the house. I think that you are confusing direct current concepts with alternating current. Household current is alternating current (AC). As such, it does not have positive and negative connections. In a 120 volt circuit you have line or power (usually black), neutral (usually white) and ground (usually either green or uninsulated).
