Formica Cabinets

We began to repaint the formica cabinets with paint from Home Depot especially made for formica. It said chip resistent. It took 4 coats to cover the formica, we did sand with fine sand as directed. Upon trying to rehang the doors, the paint began to chip and nick. Hubby now wants to get someone in to put new formica on. Isn’t that going to be expensive ?
