The plasterboard is constructed over a frame stud wall. I am curious why you cannot demolish the plasterboard and insulate the wall, then apply vapor barrier and drywall as appropriate? This also allows improvements in electrical and plumbing to be completed. Otherwise, 1/2 inch drywall can usually be screwed to studs through a plaster or plasterboard wall.
