You want to spray apply at least 2-coats of automotive clear coat. This is often a lacquer product. Automotive paint is designed to hold up in exterior conditions and sunlight. The copper must be completely polished then solvent cleaned with lacquer thinner or acetone. Mask off the area and spray apply clear coat.
