      I am involved in a natural gas water heater replacement. The original has a pressure regulator in the gas line right before the line goes into the burner control. I have never seen an application with a regulator only at the water heater site. Usually the regulator is installed outside the house at the meter, controlling the pressure for the whole house, not just for one appliance. Any ideas why a separate regulator would be found at the water heater?

      The house was once all LP gas and then converted to natural?

      depends on which water heater and when it was made. Oldies had separate regulators just as old furnaces and boilers did.
